Overview Chief Financial Officer - Local Government | North Queensland Our local council client, located in beautiful North Queensland, is seeking a dynamic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join their Executive Leadership Team and drive strategic financial management across the organisation. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced financial leader who thrives on challenge, innovation, and community impact. About the Role Reporting to the Executive Manager, Corporate and Community, the CFO will provide high-level leadership, direction, and strategic oversight across all areas of finance, procurement, and revenue management. You\'ll play a critical role in ensuring the council\'s long-term financial sustainability, compliance, and accountability. You\'ll lead the Finance, Procurement, and Rating functions, develop and implement the Long-Term Financial Plan (LTFP), and ensure strong governance and reporting frameworks. This is a hands-on leadership position suited to a forward-thinking professional who values collaboration, integrity, and excellence in public sector service delivery. Key Responsibilities Provide strategic advice to the Executive Leadership Team and Elected Members. Oversee financial strategy, budgeting, and reporting in line with legislation and accounting standards. Lead procurement and contracts frameworks to ensure effective and compliant outcomes. Manage council\'s investment, loan, and revenue portfolios. Foster a positive, high-performing finance culture built on trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Engage with stakeholders across the community, business sector, and government agencies. About You You will bring proven experience in senior financial leadership, ideally within local government or a complex multi-stakeholder environment. You\'ll have strong commercial acumen, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence decision-making at the executive level. Essential Degree qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (CPA/CA preferred). Demonstrated success in leading finance and accounting teams. Comprehensive understanding of local government financial frameworks, budgeting, and reporting. Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
