Job Description

Chief Finance Officer – Statewide Enterprise Finance Leader Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage – Perth, Western Australia. The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage is seeking a strategic, forward‑thinking finance leader to join its dynamic executive team and lead the statewide delivery of financial, business and procurement services. As Chief Finance Officer , you will guide a high‑performing finance team, foster cross‑functional partnerships and provide timely strategic advice on the financial, business and procurement implications of policy decisions under consideration by the Department. In this critical leadership role you will embed financial excellence across operations, strengthen transparency, accountability and align financial practices with the Department’s strategic direction. You will bring a strategic lens to financial sustainability and join a forward‑thinking executive team committed to respecting the past, creating opportunities today and planning for the future to create a vibrant Western Australia. Contract & Location Fixed‑term Senior Executive Service contract for up to 5 years. Office is located in Perth CBD, above the Perth Underground rail, close to Wellington Street Bus Station and City CAT services. Key Responsibilities Provide strategic financial advice on policy decisions, financial sustainability and implications for procurement. Lead the preparation of internal budgets, statutory reporting, accounting and financial management in a large and complex environment. Embed financial excellence, transparency and accountability across operations. Foster cross‑functional partnerships with other executive leaders and support the delivery of the Department’s strategic direction. Required Experience & Qualifications Extensive experience in public sector financial management and procurement frameworks, legislation, policies and processes. Experience leading the preparation of internal budgets, statutory reporting, accounting and financial management. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in best practice financial management, procurement and accounting practice principles in the public sector. Tertiary qualification in finance, commerce, business or equivalent. Membership of CPA Australia, Institute of Chartered Accountants, National Institute of Accountants or an appropriate professional body. Demonstrated executive‑level leadership behaviours and experience. Core Leadership Behaviours Outcomes‑and‑results, Collaboration, Strategic Thinking, People and Stakeholder Leadership, Innovation, Integrity – core behaviours from the Department’s Leadership Expectations should be demonstrated.
