Position overview The Bureau’s Data and Digital group (DDG) is responsible for the ICT systems the Bureau relies on to provide trusted, reliable and responsive weather, water, climate, ocean and space weather services for Australia – all day, every day. The Infrastructure Services Section within the DDG SIM Program seeks a Data Centre Services Manager to take accountability for the Bureau’s Data Centre environments that house mission critical ICT assets. Our Data Centres are well established, highly secured and closely managed environments that require ongoing stewardship to maintain them at a high standard of maturity. They are an underpinning enterprise capability that enables the Bureau’s most important ICT systems, including High-Performance Supercomputing infrastructure. To be successful in the role you will: Bring with you and contribute relevant hands-on experience and expertise in governance, management and operations of Tier 4 Data Centres to a high standard of maturity, and demonstrate personal accountability and stewardship for the state of a Data Centre facility. Have an awareness of applicable best practices and patterns, design and implementation concepts and principles, and specific considerations for their implementation in an Australian government agency. Have experience with multi-location facilities supporting 24x7 mission critical services, and have excellent planning and co-ordination skills to support technical teams in the deployment and removal of systems in those facilities, including capacity management. Be able and fit to perform physical work in a Data Centre environment, including safe heavy lifting and movement of plant and equipment, usage of specialised equipment and tools, with an applied knowledge of health and safety and personal protective equipment. Be aware of government cyber security frameworks and how they apply to ICT infrastructure. Have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Have a knowledge of and demonstrate commitment to the APS Values, APS Code of Conduct. The key duties of the position include: Take accountability for and lead oversight of the Bureau’s Data Centres. Ensure ongoing stewardship of these facilities to a high standard. Establish policy, procedure and standards for Data Centre environments and ensure all moves, adds and changes and other activity within Data Centres meet these standards. Identify and initiate continuous improvement activities. Manage the capacity of Data Centre resources in a strategic manner to the benefit of Bureau projects and operations. Enable Data Centre hosted mission critical systems to be secure, available and performant to support Bureau 24x7 operations. Ensure all environmental factors such as power, cooling, space, cabling, networking, and other requirements are provided within specifications. Respond with urgency to any major issues with the Data Centre environment on a 24x7 basis. Perform work on-site at facilities as required. Be able and fit to perform physical work, including heavy lifting and movement of plant and equipment, with specialised equipment and tools, with an applied knowledge of health and safety and personal protective equipment. Collaborate with Data Centre vendors and other equipment vendors to ensure productive ongoing contractual relationships that support the Bureau’s strategy and mission. Work with finance partners, vendor performance and contract managers to ensure ongoing lifecycle management of contracts as required. Ensure service requests related to Data Centres are resolved and maintain the team’s backlog. Act as a central contact point for any operational matter related to the capability. As a member of the Infrastructure Services leadership team, work closely with peer team leads to provide support and ‘back-up’ where appropriate. Similarly, call out situations where assistance is required from peers. Contribute to leadership team collaboration as appropriate. Assist your manager with senior management functions as directed, for example; assistance for planning, financial management or reporting. Perform other reasonable general duties as directed and delegated. Comply with all Bureau work, health and safety policies and procedures, and taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of employees, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your conduct. Eligibility Australian Citizenship The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) security clearance from the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) sponsored by the Bureau of Meteorology Must be available for attendance on-site and interstate travel as required Getting to know the Bureau of Meteorology The Bureau of Meteorology is one of the few organisations that touches the lives of all Australians and all Australia, every day.
