Job Description
About the Role SSI’s in-house legal team supports the whole SSI Group by providing high-quality, organisation-wide legal advice and support services, so that SSI can achieve its objectives and strategic goals. This critical support assists the charity to identify, prevent and mitigate legal risks, ensure compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks, and develop the legal understanding of SSI staff members relevant to their daily work. An opportunity has arisen for an experienced lawyer to join our friendly and collaborative team at the Senior Legal Counsel level. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will deliver high-quality, timely, solutions-focused legal services across all areas of the organisation, including: providing generalist legal advice to the SSI Group across a multitude of areas including government tenders & contracts, leasing and other property matters, employment law, disputes, corporate governance and legal compliance;drafting and reviewing contracts and other legal documents; identifying and mitigating legal risks pertaining to general commercial matters;monitoring changes and developments in the legal and regulatory environment that the organisation operates within, and communicating them to internal stakeholders; anddelivering legal education initiatives for SSI Group staff, including training, fact sheets and legal guides. What we are looking for is someone who: Has 7 years’ commercial/corporate legal experience, including experience with commercial contracts in Australia.Is able to interpret legal requirements applying to relevant business operations, and to provide clear, risk aware and commercially focused legal advice.Is proactive, responsive, and able to operate with a high degree of independence and initiative.Is able to work well in a team, and with a diverse range of stakeholders.Is adaptable to change and has a growth mindset.Is motivated by SSI’s purpose.Is able to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.Has organisational skills, and high attention to detail. Is proficient with the Microsoft suite and is able to quickly learn new technologies. DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE: Experience in one or more of the following: employment law, property law (leases) and legal compliance/governance,.Related experience in an NGO, Government or in-house setting.Supervisory skills to support more junior staff.Experience delivering legal training to non-legal people.
