Job Description
About the position This is a 3-month contract to cover a period of leave commencing from mid-November 2025. The primary purpose of this role is to manage ARENA’s risk, audit, fraud, and assurance functions as overseen by the Risk and Audit Committee and ultimately the ARENA Board. The Director, Risk and Assurance contributes to the identification, evaluation and establishment of programs to mitigate the organisations exposure to key risk. The role involves leading a small team and engaging in collaborative work across the business. Managing Internal Audit and engaging proactively with the ANAO are core responsibilities as well as supporting Strategic Risk identification and management for ARENA. Key responsibilitiesThe Director, Risk and Assurance will: Develop risk frameworks and maintain oversight of the risk and assurance area including providing regular reporting to the Risk and Audit Committee and the ARENA Board. Provide training and encourage positive engagement with risk management and compliance Lead the development and implementation of the internal audit program. Manage external audits including from ANAO and support financial statement review. Leading Business Continuity and disaster recovery approaches including developing, planning and testing business continuity and crisis management frameworks. Conduct periodic reviews of fraud and corruption control plans and ongoing reporting, exploring opportunities for integrating fraud and corruption risk as part of overall risk management reporting and analysis. Review internal control frameworks and implementation of ongoing reporting. Enhance business processes to integrate controls and provide a proactive approach to design of effective and efficient internal controls. Conduct periodic reviews of the assurance framework and management of assurance plans. Prepare reports to the Board, Risk and Audit Committee, internal committees and CEO (Executive) as required. About youTo be successful in this role, you will bring:Demonstrated experience and a proven record of achievement in a risk, compliance or assurance related role, preferably in a public sector environment. Strong understanding of risk management standards, methodology, practices, processes and tools. Strong knowledge and understanding of Commonwealth Government risk and audit requirements. Experience in planning and management of performance audits. Experience in preparing policies, plans, strategies and other key corporate documents relating to audit and assurance. Experience in business continuity planning and management, disaster recovery management or crisis management. Ability to build strong working relationships including the ability to influence, negotiate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Strong communication skills including the ability to present to groups in written or verbal formats. Experience in property and security functions preferred Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality results by setting clear directions, monitoring progress, responding flexibly to change and creating a shared sense of purpose. Ability to prioritise and adapt in the context of the management of multiple competing tasks and deliverables, including an ability to remain flexible.
