Job Description

Position Summary We are looking for an experienced Senior Transformer Design Engineer with a strong background in the design of distribution transformers (pad-mounted and pole-mounted) for the U.S. and North American markets. The candidate should have a solid understanding of ANSI, IEEE, NEMA, DOE and related U.S. efficiency and safety standards, and be able to lead engineering projects from concept through manufacturing. This position requires close collaboration with engineering, production, and testing teams to ensure product performance, cost efficiency, and full compliance with customer and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and development of single-phase and three-phase distribution transformers (pad-mounted, pole-mounted). Perform electrical design calculations, including core and coil design, losses, impedance, temperature rise, and short-circuit withstand. Ensure all transformer designs comply with ANSI C57, IEEE, DOE Energy Efficiency, and customer-specific standards. Develop and review approval drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation using AutoCAD or similar CAD software. Provide technical support to manufacturing, including process troubleshooting and design improvement initiatives. Lead design optimization for cost reduction and manufacturability while maintaining performance and reliability. Support testing and validation of prototype units, interpreting test results and implementing necessary design adjustments. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement and standardization of design practices. Serve as a technical liaison for North American customers, ensuring clarity and alignment on product requirements. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related field. At least 5–8 years of proven experience in distribution transformer design (pad-mounted, pole-mounted, or substation type). Strong understanding of ANSI/IEEE/DOE/NEMA standards and U.S. utility specifications. Experience with AutoCAD, Creo, or other 2D/3D design and modeling tools. Knowledge of transformer electrical calculations and magnetic design principles. Experience working in a manufacturing environment, supporting production and troubleshooting. Fluent in English and Spanish (technical communication proficiency required). Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
