Estimator (Mechanical Background) Location: Essex Contract Type: Day rate expenses (negotiable) Project Values: £100,000 – £2 million About the Role We are recruiting on behalf of a leading mechanical and electrical contractor seeking an experienced Estimator, ideally with a strong mechanical background. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for mechanical-focused projects ranging from £100,000 up to £2 million in value. This role is based full-time at the client’s office in Essex, offering a negotiable day rate plus expenses. Key Responsibilities Review project specifications, drawings, and scope documentation to develop accurate cost proposals. Prepare detailed mechanical estimates for projects within the £100k – £2m range. Conduct material take-offs, labour analysis, and subcontractor/supplier pricing. Liaise with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure estimate accuracy. Develop and maintain estimating templates, cost databases, and pricing models. Manage tender submissions, ensuring compliance with client requirements and deadlines. Assist in value engineering and cost optimisation initiatives. Provide clear handovers to project delivery teams post-award. Requirements Proven experience as an Estimator within the mechanical, M&E, or construction sector. Strong mechanical engineering knowledge or trade background. Demonstrable experience estimating projects between £100k – £2m. Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. Excellent analytical, numerical, and communication skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines. Comfortable working full-time in the Essex office.
