Your personal sphere of play:We invite postdoctoral applications for a University Assistent position in the research group Bioinformatics and Computational Biology headed by Ivo Hofacker. Our team works on the development of algorithms and methods for problems in Computational Chemistry, SystemsChemistry, and Computational Biology, with a special focus on RNA structure and bioinformatics.This position will focus on the development of methods and algorithms for the detection of structured non-coding RNAs.Your future tasks:We are seeking an ambitious, early-career researcher passionate about RNA structure and function. As part of our team, you will participate in research, teaching & administration. Specifically you will:Develop an independent research profile that complements the group’s activities.Share your research through publications in top-tier journals and presentations at leading conferences.Contribute to grant applications and secure third-party funding.Contribute to the Department's teaching activities. You will hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.Take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration. Participate in collaborative projects with groups working on noncoding RNA and RNA biology. Supervise the research conducted by master's and doctoral students. This is part of your personality:We are looking for someone with:Minimum Requirements PhD/Doctorate in bioinformatics, computer science, natural sciences, or related disciplinesStrong programming skills (preferably Python and C/C++)Expertise in bioinformatics of noncoding RNAProven ability to publish in leading international journalsExcellent communication skills and ability to work in a teamFluency in English (written and spoken)Desirable ExpertiseExperience in design, implementation, and usage of bioinformatics algorithms.Experience with RNA structure prediction methods, especially the ViennaRNA packageExperience in RNA and protein homology search.Expertise in genome wide identification of noncoding RNAs.Familiarity with tools like HMMER and Infernal.
