Job Description

The Liquid R&D Scientist will lead Product Development and other related research and development (R&D) initiatives for Campari Group’s EMEA Region. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the product development process and will be responsible for Management of projects and systems. The candidate will also manage pilot plant equipment and activities, working on new project developments from ideation phase, through the development steps up to the final production. Key Responsibilities and Activities New Product Development & Renovations Pilot Plant Innovation Pipeline and Exploratory Research New Product Development & Renovations includes coordinating new product development projects, conducting ingredient qualifications, managing renovation projects, identifying opportunities for improvement, and supporting plants and/or co-manufacturers on product and process optimization. Coordinate new product development projects by developing new formulations and/or new processes. Conduct ingredient qualifications. Manage renovation projects that may explore alternate formulations, ingredients, suppliers, and/or processes. Identify opportunities for improvement related to products and processes and support the technical feasibility. Support plants and/or co-manufacturers on product and process optimization. Batch and process formulas of semi-finished and finished prototypes or products needed for marketing and/or additional testing. Request and organize necessary technical documentation from suppliers. Ensure compliance of formulations with all relevant market requirements. Ensure formulations meet budget requirements. Execute accelerated stability testing plans and analyze results to predict shelf life and/or stability of products. Manage across multiple systems documentation control of all necessary ingredients, technical information, process directions, and formulations. Define and populate product specifications within a global centralized system. Build and manage liquid bills of material within a global centralized system. Train plant personnel as well as marketing and commercial teams on new products. Design and execute scientific/R&D experiments, analyze results, and summarize conclusions and next steps. Provide support to Legal, Operations and Commercial teams on technical inquiries related to products. Support in technical assessments and/or audits of current and potential suppliers and/or co-manufacturers, when necessary. Pilot Plant includes overseeing first production of products, managing a small production line, ensuring proper maintenance of pilot plant and equipment, and overseeing pilot scale operations. Oversee first production of products to ensure successful industrialization. Manage a small production line driving people, maintenance, SAP, services, and all related activities (HACCP, pest control, Safety, etc). Ensure proper maintenance of pilot plant and equipment. Oversee pilot scale operations from blending, filtration, carbonation, to bottling. Work with stakeholders to facilitate projects to be produced in the pilot plant. Support in the pilot plant budget proposals and management. Innovation Pipeline and Exploratory Research includes partnering with marketing and project management teams, supporting and/or leading exploratory R&D, and keeping up to date with technological innovations. Partner with marketing and project management teams to generate and execute innovation projects and initiatives. Support and/or lead exploratory R&D to build and sustain innovation. Support marketing in ideation sessions and workshops. Keep up to date with technological innovations and develop new innovations and/or improvements that unlock new opportunities for Campari Group. Requirements 3-5 years of product development experience is required. Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or other science subject.
