Overview Data Center Technician, Operations, IT, & Support Engineering – AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and are looking for talented people who want to help. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to deliver high standards for safety and security while providing capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. We foster an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion. A unique opportunity to join AWS as a Data Centre Technician. You will become the primary resolver for your support team, gain troubleshooting skills on one or more operating systems, and be able to troubleshoot and solve all but the most complex infrastructure issues. Issues are escalated to the appropriate resolver groups when necessary. You will create and maintain documentation on technologies you support and convey Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to junior staff. You understand all aspects of the equipment you support and can innovate and make decisions independently while also taking direction when provided, paying attention to all details involved. You can execute small projects on your own and collaborate with your manager on larger local projects. You act as an escalation point for junior technicians and understand all aspects of the equipment you support. You will work a regular schedule Monday to Friday with on-call rotation and potential shift coverage during emergencies. Travel may be required up to 10% of the time. Responsibilities Troubleshooting of facility and rack-level events within internal Service-Level Agreements (SLAs). Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures. Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work. Respond to off-hour emergency calls per on-call rotation for any one of the region’s sites. Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies. Must be commutable to the Thames Valley Region. Basic Qualifications Data Centres are 24/7 environments. Willingness to work rotating shifts (day/night) as well as weekends. 3 years of Computer Hardware experience. 3 years of Computer Networking experience. Data Centre Technicians may be required to wear a pager for communication, information, emergency, and on-call situations. Preferred Qualifications Associate’s degree or higher in an IT-related field; applicable certifications or equivalent professional/military experience. Networking experience with CCNA and/or Network certifications. Experience with CISCO, Juniper, and other commodity networking devices. Previous experience in a Data Centre environment (racking & stacking gear, cable management, hot & cold aisle containment). Valid driver’s license, own vehicle, and ability to pass a driving record check to operate company vehicles. Travel between sites/locations during the workday may occur.
