Aviation Safety Ornithologist Competitive Salary Benefits Remote with travel (mainly UK) The Role Do you have strong field identification skills and a solid understanding of bird ecology? Are you confident working independently and interested in aviation safety? Birdstrike Management Ltd (BML) is a global consultancy helping the aviation industry reduce bird and wildlife strike risks. Were looking for a skilled and motivated Aviation Safety Ornithologist to join our growing team. This is a one-year contract with the possibility of becoming permanent. Youll be based from home with regular travel for field work across the UK, and occasional international opportunities. Youll work Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week), with occasional weekend work. Youll support a wide range of ornithological tasks near UK aerodromes, providing expert insights and data to help reduce risks to aviation. Key Responsibilities: Carrying out bird surveys independently at UK aerodromes Supporting and delivering training to aerodrome staff Reviewing planning applications for potential birdstrike impacts Analysing wildlife data and identifying bird remains Preparing ornithological reports based on fieldwork and analysis The Company Birdstrike Management, where we prioritise safety in the aviation industry. We offer comprehensive Wildlife Hazard Management planning, tailored training, safeguarding, monitoring, remains identification and independent advice on effective habitat and active management solutions. The Person Were looking for someone who can demonstrate: Competent British bird identification and understanding of habitat use Good communication skills with clients, colleagues, and the public Experience in bird surveying and data recording Ability to deliver small group presentations Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office Flexibility to work occasional unsociable hours Willingness to travel and stay away from home for short periods You must hold a UK driving licence and have a valid passport or ID to access aerodrome sites. Were especially interested in applicants with knowledge of: Bird/wildlife strike risk Planning applications affecting bird presence UK wildlife licensing GIS mapping
