Job Description Job Description *Overview* ELG Solutions is seeking a skilled and highly motivated personnel to join the USAO- District of Vermont as Legal Assistants and help the agency in preparing and processing complex legal documents, reviewing and assembling materials, and drafting documents with limited guidance. Key tasks include developing document indices, composing non-legal letters, managing files and reference searches, and performing docketing and calendar management. Additionally, it entails maintaining and producing documents with accurate formatting and adhering to deadlines. We require at least 1 year of Legal Experience at least a Highschool Diploma or Bachelor's Degree would be ideal. Duties Examines, prepares, and processes a variety of technical legal documents which are characteristically voluminous and complex in format.Duties Reviews incoming material and independently determines the need for assembly and preparation of a variety of legal documents. Obtains needed information from appropriate sources and submits drafted legal documents to the appropriate AUSA. With limited instructions from the AUSA, prepares responsive documents. Completes variable aspects of recurring legal documents in conformance with the rules governing their style and format. Develops tables of contents and indices to briefs in accordance with established format. Lists cited cases, opinions, and miscellaneous references in briefs. Composes original letters that do not require legal interpretations but do require a good working knowledge of legal procedures and specialized terminology, e.g., transmittal of pleadings, requests for extensions of time in certain cases, advising of actions taken or developments in cases referred by other federal departments and agencies, and notices to attorneys representing defendants. Establishes and maintains a variety of files. Searches legal reference files for information needed by AUSAs. Separates, screens, selects, assembles, and organizes files and records material for disposition or transfer to the records depository in accordance with established procedures. May perform docketing duties such as opening, updating, and closing cases through use of the automated case tracking system. As necessary, searches database for required information. Maintains calendar of assigned active cases. Tracks filing and hearing dates. Develops and maintains suspense system for ongoing cases and informs the AUSA of pending dates and deadlines. Maintains calendar(s) of the AUSA(s) and provides reminders of commitments and court appearances. Produces a variety of written documents and materials utilizing a wide range of office software applications. Ensures proper format, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar. Performs other duties assigned as they relate to the above tasks. *MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE* Sufficient experience, education, training, and skills to satisfactorily perform the requirements of this Statement of Work. High school diploma, or equivalent, and no less than 1-year related experience to satisfactorily perform the requirements of this Statement of Work. Skill in operating a personal computer, scanner, or other automated office equipment. Ability to read, speak, and write English is required. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat Professional, Lexis/Nexis and/or WestLaw.
