Controls Design Engineer

This position is responsible in development, validations and release of electronic control products and supporting applications on Hussmann products and new technology developments. The role will be engaged in cross functional activities for new product development and existing product improvements. The role will also be responsible for providing technical guidance to field personnel, sales staff and Hussmann customers. Principal Responsibilities: Work with product engineering, marketing, manufacturing, Quality and others to capture functional requirements and design documents for electronic controls and supported PC based applications. Coordinate with supplier and development partners to improve existing electronic designs for cost, quality and/or functional improvements Specify/Review system level design and assemblies including components such as: Embedded PC’s, PLC’s, Displays, wiring harnesses, power supplies etc. Analyze / Review design of application specific electronics including 3rd party components for system compatibility and regulatory compliance Coordinate and perform application functional validations, component testing, analysis, and any design modifications/improvements Support the development of instructions, user manuals, technical notes, troubleshooting and testing documents for inclusion in product documentation Support the creation of procedures and instructions to aid in the manufacturing process Leverage internal and external technical experts to develop innovative ideas, match new technologies to markets needs and opportunities resulting in sustainable competitive advantage in our core and adjacent markets. Education/Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics Engineering or any other equivalent. 1-2 years of hands on experience with electronics development and/or electronics related application development/validations. Advanced English. Additional Requirements Experience in validating software operation in electronic equipment controls incorporating both application level and component level analysis. Experience in using development/validation tool sets and associated instrumentation for electronic components. Experience in developing application software for programmable platforms, PLC’s and/or embedded systems using basic programming languages, ladder logic programming, structured texts, function blocks etc. is a plus. Experience with networking protocols – Ethernet, IP, UDP etc. and controls communications protocols - CAN, BACnet, Modbus is a plus. Knowledge and experience in developing applications using Python, Node JS, or similar languages is a plus. Experience in source code management tools (TFS, Git based etc.), defect tracking tools (YouTrack, Test Track etc.) and other deployment tools. Experience with Altium or other EDA / CAD systems Knowledge and hands on experience with controls development in refrigeration or HVAC or other related industry. Ability to function independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Innovative and problem-solving abilities.
