Job Description

The Operational Excellence Manager is a leader and facilitator within a team. They are a change agent who guides and motivates teams to implement continuous improvement initiatives and achieve the organization's strategic goals. This role is responsible for developing and implementing a unified approach to the continuous improvement process at Andrew, with the aim of delivering high-quality products and services through lean processes and efficient value-added practices aligned with Andrew’s high standards. The role also includes implementing a structured problem-solving program that fosters a disciplined culture within the team. This position involves organizational functions and cross-functional interactions with customers, operations, planning, purchasing, supply base, quality, finance, human resources, engineering, and any other applicable areas to support ongoing process improvement opportunities. The manager must be a leader in the continuous improvement process for both internal and external processes. The position requires the ability to distinguish value-added activities from waste and to apply structured methodologies to eliminate waste within the value chain and reduce variation in processes. They are responsible for training, executing, and monitoring operational excellence programs, which include Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma. They must have basic knowledge of ergonomics, risk analysis, and environmental aspects. They must also have proven knowledge and understanding to work on financial topics and projects such as conversion cost, labor cost, VOH (Variable Overhead), FOH (Fixed Overhead), absorption, cost per hour, standard cost, budget, and P&L. A high level of knowledge in process analysis and improvement is required—identifying areas of opportunity, analyzing existing processes, implementing solutions, and measuring results. A strong sense of teamwork is essential, as this role will work directly with managers to strategically identify and improve opportunities across each area, department, process, KPI, etc. Responsibilities •Provide input for a live strategy in the specific continuous improvement process for their areas of responsibility to help drive excellence across all products and processes, aligning them with the company’s overall continuous improvement strategy. This includes implementing industry best practices such as lean methodologies, including 5S, value stream mapping (VSM), Kaizen, Six Sigma, etc. This strategy incorporates required elements from corporate, business unit, and site-level stakeholders, including internal and external customers and functions such as operations, procurement, supply base, quality, planning, finance, etc. •The Continuous Improvement Process Manager is responsible for four key areas of the continuous improvement process related to site(s)/BU elements, and is accountable for: • Lean Manufacturing: the development and application of world-class methodologies within Andrew including value chain mapping, Kaizen, etc. As applicable to the process (business processes or operations) or products within the scope of your responsibility to improve added value and reduce or eliminate waste. Six Sigma: Systematic application of world-class Six Sigma tools and methodologies to reduce process and/or product variation and consequently ensure confidence that products and services always meet the given requirements. • Education: to educate and train in the concepts of lean and six sigma manufacturing. To train and educate Andrew's staff and where applicable, clients and suppliers to deliver six sigma tools and methodologies. • Facilitator: to facilitate an operational excellence program and continuous improvement of the process. •Lean Manufacturing • Responsible for implementing Andrew's continuous improvement process regarding lean manufacturing. Working with plant staff to identify opportunities for improvement such as Value Stream, Mapping, 5'S, etc. Providing help with coaching, leadership, and direct support. • Facilitates the creation of lean manufacturing calendars and guides for periods of 12-18 months. • Guide and/or support cross-functional teams to deliver lean manufacturing solutions across the enterprise and in the same manner incorporating best practices. • Guide and/or assist with corporate improvement projects, establish parameters and best practices and align with the company's overall goals in their areas of responsibility. • Six Sigma • Responsible for implementing Andrew's continuous improvement process regarding six sigma. Working with peers to identify opportunities for tool improvement, such as statistical process control, experiment design, process capability, and others, providing support with training, leadership, and direct support. • Facilitates the creation of six sigma calendars and period guides from 3 to 12 months. • Guide and/or support certification candidates as well as 6th grade project leaders through the company and in the same way incorporating best practices. • Guide and/or assist with corporate improvement projects, establish parameters and best practices and align with the general goals of the company in their areas of responsibility. •Education • Responsible for coaching and educating employees as required to deliver Andrew's continuous improvement process. •Facilitator • Responsible for facilitating the activities of the continuous improvement process within the area and scope of responsibility. • Timely support of the administration of the areas of continuous improvement related to the programmed calendar. • Identify opportunities and promote change with the management team. • Translate opportunities into a calendar of continuous improvement activities. • Maintain awareness about the business context and profitability of the company, including budget problems. • Oversees and manages the budget associated with projects, ensuring adequate ROI on projects while delivering solutions within budget. • Always consider and promote the participation of human capital. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field with 8 years of relevant experience. • Working knowledge of basic and advanced continuous improvement tools such as: lean manufacturing, TQM, Six Sigma, SPC, FMEA, 5 Whys, control plans, root cause analysis, Poka Yoke, etc. • Ability to train and educate at all levels of the organization. • Excellent decision-making and interpersonal skills are essential. • Ability to lead project teams across departments and/or cross-functional personnel located at various plants in North America. • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining the right balance between meeting business requirements and managing available resources. • Ability to drive change where required. • Preferred experience gained within a multi-plant manufacturing environment. • Ability to facilitate with managers from multiple locations. • Willing to travel. • Bilingual. • Knowledge of quality system and EHS management system concepts. • Six Sigma (Black Belt) Certification
