Job Description

We are currently seeking a dynamic individual for the position of Trade Accountant within a well-established finance division. This specialized role involves the daily monitoring of derivatives and physicals, ensuring accuracy in reporting. The successful candidate will be engaged in a hands-on role with high visibility, requiring a strong commitment to maintaining independence and accuracy. Minimum Qualifications and Experience: Tertiary qualification in Risk Management, Financial, or Accountancy, and related fields. Minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in a similar role. Knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles. Exposure to derivative markets, risk management environments, and the grains industry. Duties & Responsibilities: Review Trade Position Accuracy. Review Open Contracts. Compile Daily PNL Report. Daily Valuation of New Deals. Daily FX Valuation. Realized PNL Valuation. Ensure accurate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses. Prepare supporting schedules according to the monthly close schedule. Monthly account reconciliations per commodity. Monthly intercompany reconciliations and recording of transactions. Execute usual accounting functions, including operating the general ledger system and month-end close responsibilities. Prepare commercial reports. Preparation for internal and external audits. Balance sheet reconciliations. Payment review and approval. Data validation and integrity. Address any ad-hoc duties that may arise. Essential Skills: Intermediate to Advanced MS Excel proficiency. Understanding of derivative markets and/or risk management. Excellent numerical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy. Experience working in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work well within a team environment. Strong planning, organizing, and time management skills. Critical thinker with emotional resilience to overcome obstacles. Proactive and able to work under pressure. Good interpersonal and organizing skills. Strong communication and listening skills. Positive attitude. Computer Literacy (MS Office, Word, Outlook, web-based platforms). Ability to work collaboratively at all levels within the business. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Aptitude for continuous system enhancements and automation. Desirable Skills: Exposure to the grains industry. SAP experience. Experience using an ERP system. General: 18 days annual leave. Office based in Techno Park, Stellenbosch. Reports to Contract Desk Controller. Salary is market-related basic salary with provident fund and medical aid benefits.
