Job Description
Rutherford Cross is delighted to be working in partnership with a well-established Scottish charity to recruit an Assistant Management Accountant. This newly created role offers a unique opportunity to join an organisation with a meaningful social impact, supporting the delivery of essential care services across Scotland. Working closely with the Financial Accountant, this is a key role within a collaborative and values-led finance team. You will take ownership of the purchase ledger, contribute significantly to month-end reporting, and play a central role in supporting the wider accounting function. The position also acts as a deputy to the Financial Accountant, offering excellent exposure to leadership duties and decision-making. Key Responsibilities Purchase Ledger Management End-to-end management of the purchase ledger, including invoice processing, supplier payments, reconciliations, and credit card accounting Maintain accurate supplier records and resolve queries promptly Work closely with Procurement to match invoices with purchase orders and delivery notes Support month-end close with accruals, journals, and reporting Accounting Operations Assist in the completion of key month-end reconciliations, including legacies, restricted funds, and investments Support bank reconciliations and general ledger maintenance Provide cover for other finance functions including cash and banking, resident account services, and credit control Uphold compliance with financial procedures and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of internal controls Management & Leadership Act as deputy to the Financial Accountant, supporting resource planning and preparation of trial balances, management accounts, and system administration during absences Provide guidance and informal supervision to junior finance team members Candidate Profile Significant experience managing purchase ledger and accounts payable functions Strong understanding of financial controls and month-end processes Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and time management Confident in using accounting systems and Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables and formulas) Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams Experience acting as a deputy or stepping into a supervisory finance role Knowledge of accounting systems such as Pegasus Opera and Coldharbour Part-qualified with ACCA, CIMA or qualified by experience
