Principal Mechanical Engineer – Manchester Location: Manchester Sector: Building Services | Multidisciplinary Engineering Level: Principal We’re working with a long-established, design-led consultancy that’s looking to expand its Mechanical Engineering team in Manchester with the addition of a Principal Engineer. The practice has a strong presence in the North West, delivering innovative solutions across a broad range of sectors, including Residential, Commercial, Healthcare, Science & Research, and Mission Critical/Data Centres. They offer a collaborative, knowledge-sharing environment with a culture that supports autonomy, flexibility, and technical excellence. This is a key leadership position within the team, responsible for both technical delivery and project leadership. You’ll lead multidisciplinary design teams, oversee project performance, and act as the main point of contact for clients on a range of local and international schemes. Responsibilities Include: Leading and delivering coordinated mechanical designs across multiple project types and sizes Acting as the principal client liaison, developing and nurturing long-term relationships Coordinating input from multiple disciplines and managing team resources Supporting fee proposals, project bids, and business development activities Mentoring and developing junior engineers, contributing to team growth and culture Monitoring project budgets, quality, and risk, ensuring successful delivery What we are looking for: A strong background in mechanical building services design, with experience across several sectors Comfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment with both internal teams and external stakeholders Proficient in relevant tools and software (e.g. Revit, AutoCAD) Excellent communication and leadership skills In-depth knowledge of UK Building Regulations and relevant British Standards Previous consultancy experience is essential This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled Mechanical Engineer who’s looking to take a step up into a leadership role, or for someone already operating at Principal level who’s ready for a new challenge within a high-performing, supportive team.
