Programme Director – Smart Metering Location: Hybrid, London, United Kingdom Salary: £95,000 - £110,000 Uneek is pleased to partner with a leading smart Energy/Utilities and infrastructure technology organisation in their search for a Programme Director to lead the delivery of high-impact smart metering programmes across the United Kingdom and EMEA region. Our client is a recognised leader in the digital transformation of the energy sector, delivering advanced metering solutions and connected technologies that help consumers, utilities and grid operators manage energy more efficiently. This senior leadership role will oversee the successful execution of complex, large-scale smart metering initiatives, with responsibility for strategic direction, stakeholder engagement and full programme governance. The Programme Director will work closely with executive leadership and external partners to ensure all projects are delivered in line with regulatory standards, operational targets and commercial objectives. Key Responsibilities: Provide end-to-end leadership of smart metering programme delivery, including rollout, technology integration, compliance and performance management Direct cross-functional teams responsible for engineering, product, field operations, data, procurement and customer solutions Develop and maintain robust programme governance frameworks to ensure effective planning, execution, risk management and reporting Act as the primary point of contact for external stakeholders including Ofgem, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), and the Data Communications Company (DCC) Lead programme budgeting, financial planning and reporting to ensure delivery remains within commercial and regulatory expectations Drive continuous improvement across delivery processes, embedding best practice methodologies such as PRINCE2, MSP or Agile where appropriate Promote the use of modern tools, analytics and automation to increase visibility, speed and reliability across programme activity Provide strategic insight and regular reporting to the executive team, ensuring alignment between programme delivery and wider business objectives Lead, mentor and support senior programme managers and delivery staff to build a culture of high performance, collaboration and accountability Requirements for the role: Proven track record of delivering major smart metering or energy technology programmes within the UK or broader EMEA market In-depth understanding of SMETS2 frameworks, DCC infrastructure, smart meter data flows and energy regulatory compliance Extensive experience managing large, multi-disciplinary teams across technical and operational delivery functions Strong grasp of programme delivery methodologies, with the ability to tailor governance approaches to meet programme scale and complexity Financially astute, with demonstrable experience managing budgets in excess of £10 million Confident communicator with a strong ability to influence at executive and board level, and to manage relationships with external regulators and strategic partners Practical experience in delivering transformation within a regulated, customer-focused environment A strategic and pragmatic leader who thrives in fast-moving, evolving settings and is committed to delivering high-quality outcomes at scale Uneek is committed to inclusive recruitment practices and welcomes applications from candidates of all backgrounds.
