Job Description

Key role objective The principal function of this position is the site implementation of groundwater control schemes for projects which you are responsible for, this includes effective client communication, commercial management, technical success, and profitability. Establishing a strong collaborative working relationship with our clients at all levels is key to WJs long term success. About the Role Carry out project management duties: Responsibilities Lead by example in promoting good safety leadership, engaging with staff at all levels to promote a top performing SHEQ culture. Brief, check and audit site operational staff to ensure robust and effective safe working practices are being followed and upheld. To deliver WJ’s contractual obligations as directed by the Operations Manager. To supervise site activities and closely liaise with the clients site staff, supervisors, subcontractors, and suppliers. To maintain a good quality documentary record of WJ’s contractual activities including the collection, collation, and presentation of monitoring data. To perform project management and dissemination responsibilities, including drafting of regular progress reports as required & participating in both internal and external project meetings. Prepare Method Statements, including working drawings and works procedures. Appoint and brief the WJ site team, including specialist subcontractors. Define the project program & ensuring contractual targets are met. Prepare, issue, and negotiate monthly payment applications. Undertake business development activities for new projects. This may involve site visits to collect information and discuss our client’s requirements, pursuing tenders, assisting in the preparation of tenders & quotations. Take responsibility for your own health and safety and to prepare Risk Assessments for site activities. Brief, check and audit site staff to ensure safe working practices are being followed. Directly line manage WJ site and monitoring staff. The above is not exhaustive and you will be expected to undertake any other duties which may reasonably fall within your level of responsibility and competence. The board of WJ Groundwater Limited is committed to the implementation and certification of an Integrated Management System to ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001. Assist in the development of the Integrated Management System. Administer IMS procedures and ensure objectives and targets are met. Liaise with the company auditors and ensure execution of corrective actions. Collaborate across UK business units-including Accounts, HR, SHE, design/technical, sales/marketing, drilling, monitoring and environmental services to build strong cross-functional relationships and support financial objectives. Working Conditions Primarily based at head office, the role includes regular UK site visits for meetings, walkovers, inductions, and project briefings. During probation, the post holder may be site-based to support skill development under the guidance of other Project Managers. Activities on site are carried out in dynamic outdoor environments, including busy construction zones, excavations, tunnels, audits and shafts with strict adherence to safety, health & environmental (SHE) regulations. Qualifications A motivated and hardworking individual with good written and communication skills is essential. Degree (or equivalent) in relevant engineering discipline. Minimum 5 years’ project and site management experience in the construction industry or similar environment, or 3 years in a Project Engineering role at WJ with proven capability Holds valid CSCS card Holds valid Site Managers Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certification Strong technical understanding of Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering. Comprehensive experience supervising geotechnical works, including use of the ‘observational method’. Client facing experience with confidence in stakeholder engagement Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to interpret technical data and regulations High standard of written English and ability to draft accurate, professional documentation Organised and dependable, able to manage personal and team workloads under tight deadlines Proven ability to manage site teams and subcontractors in demanding environments Self-motivated, resourceful, and capable of working independently on challenging sites Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant digital tools. Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex or sensitive information clearly is an essential requirement Flexible to travel across the UK to various project sites and WJ facilities. Full UK Driving License Required Skills Good written and communication skills. Experience in managing projects and site staff. Understanding of Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering. Supervision of Geotechnical activities. Ability to work unsupervised. Planning and organizing skills. Management experience. Commercial awareness. Competent in Microsoft Office. Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills. Experience in the construction industry. Knowledge of construction industry contracts.
