Position Summary: Under the direction of the Yard Supervisor, the Load Checker/Gate Guard plays a key role in supporting the yard, plant, dispatch, and customer service teams. This position ensures proper inventory placement and product flow while upholding Basalite’s Core Values of Integrity, Safety, Respect, Customer Focus, Quality, Innovation, and Financial Success. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. Key Responsibilities: Learn and identify all block products, including size and color variations. Distinguish between quality and defective products. Understand block stacking patterns and pallet quantities. Gain working knowledge of the cuber, splitter, and depalleter operations. Assist with machine operations and report malfunctions to supervisor or operator immediately. Learn proper wrap machine operation, including wrap changes and Lock Out/Tag Out procedures. Maintain awareness of designated yard locations for each product. Understand pallet tags and ensure proper tagging before yard placement. Work efficiently with production line to ensure continuous product flow. Keep work areas clean, including outside lines and wrapper room. Support Machine Operator as needed with production duties. Complete required reports accurately and on time. Perform daily forklift inspections and report any issues. Operate forklifts safely in all weather and terrain conditions. Load, stack, and transport products correctly and neatly. Perform basic forklift maintenance (fluids, greasing, cleaning). Follow all company safety and Lock Out/Tag Out procedures. Attend safety meetings and immediately report hazards. Maintain predictable and consistent attendance. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. 1–2 years of forklift and material handling experience preferred. On-the-job training provided; Basalite forklift certification required. Familiarity with safety regulations and forklift maintenance. Ability to follow directions and work independently. Basic math, reading, writing, and tape measure skills required. Physically able to shovel, stack, and flip blocks as needed. Regular and reliable attendance is essential. Physical Requirements: Frequent use of hands and arms; standing, walking, sitting, and verbal communication. Occasional bending and lifting/moving up to 100 lbs. Work Environment: Exposure to loud, dusty, and outdoor conditions with extreme weather. Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
