VMware NSX Operations Engineer

Job Title: VMware NSX Operations Engineer Experience: 5 years in enterprise networking and virtualization, with 2 years hands-on with NSX Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled VMware NSX Operations Engineer to manage and support our NSX-based network virtualization platform in a production environment. The ideal candidate will have deep operational experience with VMware NSX-T (and/or NSX-V), and a solid understanding of virtual networking, security policies, and infrastructure automation. The role is hands-on and will be part of the infrastructure operations team ensuring the performance, stability, and scalability of our software-defined network environment. Key Responsibilities: Operational Support: Maintain and monitor VMware NSX infrastructure (NSX-T preferred). Perform health checks, patching, and routine maintenance of NSX components (e.g., Edge Nodes, T0/T1 routers, DFW). Troubleshoot NSX-related issues in connectivity, routing, micro-segmentation, or service insertion. Monitor logs and alerts from NSX Manager, vCenter, and third-party monitoring tools. Change & Incident Management: Manage change requests involving NSX configuration updates (e.g., firewall rule changes, route modifications). Respond to incidents and perform root cause analysis for network-related outages or degradations. Implement and document operational fixes, mitigations, and preventive measures. Network & Security Administration: Configure and manage distributed firewall (DFW) rules, security tags, and groups. Manage overlay networking (VLANs, VXLANs, Geneve) and dynamic routing protocols (BGP, OSPF). Support L2 bridging, NAT, load balancing, and VPN services in NSX. Automation & Optimization: Leverage PowerCLI, Python, or Ansible to automate routine tasks and configuration management. Monitor performance metrics and recommend optimizations to improve efficiency. Support integration with external platforms such as SIEMs, CMDBs, or cloud services. Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Maintain up-to-date operational runbooks, network diagrams, and SOPs. Provide knowledge transfer and training to L1/L2 support teams. Document incident reports and configuration changes as part of compliance and audit needs. Required Skills & Experience: Hands-on experience operating VMware NSX-T in production (NSX-V is a plus). Deep understanding of L2–L4 networking, virtual switches (vDS), and distributed routing. Experience with NSX Distributed Firewall , micro-segmentation, and service chaining. Solid skills in troubleshooting routing protocols , firewall rules, and network connectivity. Familiarity with vSphere , vCenter , and integration with vRealize suite or Aria Operations. Preferred Qualifications: VMware certification preferred: VCP-NV , VCAP-NV Deploy/Design , or VCIX-NV . Experience with automation/scripting (e.g., PowerCLI, Python, REST APIs). Exposure to hybrid or multi-cloud NSX integrations (e.g., NSX or NSX on AWS/Azure). Familiarity with tools like Wireshark, Log Insight, vRealize Network Insight (vRNI), or Aria Operations for Networks. Soft Skills: Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving mindset. Ability to work in high-pressure environments and support mission-critical infrastructure. Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders. Team player with a proactive approach to system reliability and service improvement.
