Senior Engineer – Flood Defence / Heavy Civils Location: Derby / Leicester Area ️ Projects: Various Environment Agency Schemes – Flood Defence, Riverworks, and Heavy Civils Type: Full-Time, Permanent Salary: Competitive Car/Allowance Package The Opportunity We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join a well-established civil engineering contractor delivering a series of smaller-scale Environment Agency (EA) schemes across the Derbyshire and Leicestershire region. These projects focus on flood risk management, riverworks, culverts, retaining structures, and other heavy civils works in environmentally sensitive locations. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven engineer looking to take a lead role on technically challenging schemes and be involved in projects from start to finish—covering planning, setting out, QA, and day-to-day delivery. Key Responsibilities * Act as the lead site engineer across a portfolio of flood defence and heavy civils projects. * Interpret technical drawings and specifications to ensure accurate setting out. * Ensure site activities comply with design specifications, method statements, and health and safety standards. * Support the Site Agent and Project Manager in planning and managing resources, plant, and labour. * Coordinate subcontractors and ensure works progress to programme. * Maintain site records including ITPs, daily diaries, and QA documentation. * Assist with client liaison, environmental compliance, and early resolution of site issues. Requirements ✅ HND/Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent. ✅ Proven experience in civil engineering—ideally in flood defence, riverworks, or heavy civils. ✅ Proficient in setting out using total stations, GPS, and AutoCAD. ✅ Strong knowledge of CDM regulations and site safety. ✅ Able to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. ✅ Excellent communication and leadership skills. ✅ Full UK driving licence (essential due to multiple site locations). Desirable * Previous work on Environment Agency frameworks or similar flood alleviation schemes. * Experience in temporary works coordination or environmental permitting. * SMSTS or SSSTS and CSCS (Gold or Black Card preferred).
