Vacancy Information Hourly rate of pay: £18.70 - £20.91 Temporary for 24 months. Days and Hours of Work: Monday - Friday, working times to be agreed with successful candidate. Flexi time is applicable, and starting and finishing times are flexible. To start asap. We have an exciting opportunity for a Roads Officer/Roads Inspector to join a flexible team of professionals in delivering a high quality service within East Lothian Council Roads Services team. The post holder will inspect, control, and monitor operations within or affecting the public road network. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who has knowledge and experience in the construction industry around the inspection and maintenance of new roads and associated infrastructure. We are looking for a roads officer/inspector/ clerk of works specifically focused on road projects. They will be responsible for overseeing and inspecting the construction and maintenance of new roads, drainage etc ensuring they meet specified standards and regulations. This role involves regular site visits, monitoring progress, checking materials and workmanship, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards. The post holder will also liaise with contractors, utility companies and other stakeholders to coordinate works and address potential issues. Good record keeping is key. You will also be responsible for investigating and resolving complaints or issues related to the road infrastructure. Good knowledge and understanding of Health and safety is essential. In some cases, the post holder will be involved in the preparation and issuing permits ie Skip Permits, Road Occupation Permits, Footway Crossover Permits, Road Opening Permits and coordination of works pertaining to the construction of road infrastructure within new developments and approval of contractor’s temporary traffic management plans. Job Requirements Relevant Qualifications Educated to HNC/SVQ Level 2 in Civil Engineering or related discipline and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.
