Design Manager - Public Sector Construction * South Woodford, London * Medium-Sized Main Contractor | Projects up to £20m * Salary up to £80k package Role We are looking for a proactive and experienced Design Manager to join a well-established medium-sized main contractor specialising in public sector construction, including education, healthcare, government buildings, social housing, and leisure facilities. With a healthy pipeline of projects ranging up to £20m across London and the South East, we are seeking a Design Manager to lead the design process across multiple schemes, ensuring innovation, compliance, and delivery excellence. Responsibilities * Lead the design process from tender through to delivery across a range of public sector projects. * Coordinate with consultants, architects, clients, and internal teams to drive design solutions. * Ensure compliance with project briefs, statutory requirements, and relevant regulations. * Manage design programme schedules, identify risks, and propose mitigation strategies. * Review drawings, specifications, and subcontractor design information for accuracy and buildability. * Support bid submissions with technical input and value engineering opportunities. Requirements * Proven experience as a Design Manager (or Senior Design Coordinator ready to step up) within the main contracting sector. * Strong understanding of public sector construction standards and frameworks. * Experience across sectors such as education, healthcare, and social housing is highly desirable. * Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively with diverse stakeholders. * Knowledge of Building Regulations, Planning, and BIM processes. * Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
