Installation & Service Engineer – Packaging Machinery Location: Commutable to Hereford (UK-wide travel required) Salary: £42,000 – £45,000 overtime (£7k avg), £25 night away allowance, excellent benefits About the Company We are a leading distributor of mid-to-end-of-line (EOL) packaging machinery, supplying advanced solutions to major food industry clients across the UK. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Installation & Service Engineer to join our dynamic team. The Role As an Installation & Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, servicing, and maintenance of packaging machinery at customer sites throughout the UK. You'll work predominantly on electrical systems (approximately 70% electrical, 30% mechanical), but a strong multi-skilled background is essential. When not on site, you will be based at our Hereford workshop supporting in-house projects and preparations. Key Responsibilities Install, commission, and service packaging machinery on customer sites Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults Interpret and work from electrical diagrams and schematics Perform PLC fault finding and basic modifications Work on sensors, motors, gearboxes, and 3-phase machinery Provide technical support and training to customers as require Complete detailed service reports and documentation Requirements Minimum NVQ (or equivalent) qualification in electrical engineering Strong experience in electrical fault finding and maintenance Experience working with PLCs (diagnostics and fault finding) Proficiency with electrical diagrams, sensors, motors, gearboxes, and 3-phase equipment Background in capital equipment or industrial machinery, ideally within packaging Flexibility to travel across the UK, with regular overnight stays (average 2 nights per week) Based within a commutable distance to Hereford (workshop presence expected during quieter periods) Package & Benefits Salary: £42,000 – £45,000 Overtime paid at time and a half (circa £7,000 average per year) 25 days holiday bank holidays 8% pension contribution Death-in-service cover Private health benefits Pool car provided for site visits £25 per night away allowance Average 45-hour working week Ready to take the next step in your engineering career?
