Job overview We are looking to recruit to a Part-Time Consultant Neurologist to work within the directorate of Neurosciences at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and will be based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The post will deliver a combination of acute neurology and stroke inpatient cover on the wards and outpatient clinics and enables the successful candidate the opportunity for this to be provided flexibly with on site and remote sessions. Main duties of the job Appointments are made to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the person appointed is required to be sufficiently flexible to undertake their main clinical duties at any of the sites within the region and/or to change their base hospital. The appointee, together with consultant colleagues, will be expected to actively participate in the management of acute neurological admissions and in-patients including the management of acute stroke referrals and in-patients as part of routine weekday and all out of hours periods. The person appointed will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence. They will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and the proper functioning of the Department. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria • Registered with the GMC with a licence to practice. • Name on the specialist register for Neurology or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. • MRCP or Equivalent Desirable criteria • Higher Degree • Further qualifications in research methods, teaching and/or management • Distinctions, prizes, awards, scholarships Personal attributes Essential criteria • Good oral and written communication skills • Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values (see appendix) • Good time management skills • Ensures value for money is considered in all that they do • The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC’ good medical practice (2013). Management and Administration Essential criteria • Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management • Evidence of ability to work with management and previous experience of management groups. • Ability to lead a team and understanding of leadership skills • Able to prioritise & organise work efficiently Continuous Professional Development Essential criteria • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months • Experience of appraisal or equivalent overseas arrangements • Commitment to life-long learning • Ability to organise own learning and time Desirable criteria • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio • Membership of appropriate specialist societies Teaching and training Essential criteria • Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels • Experience of teaching/training other clinical professionals. Research Essential criteria • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate Desirable criteria • Publications in Peer reviewed journals. Clinical experience Essential criteria • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Neurology • Has developed (or is willing to develop) a complementary area of sub-specialist interest in Neurology. • Understanding of evidence-based medical practice. • Skills and competence in the management of patients with neurological conditions. Clinical governance and audit Essential criteria • Experience in performing clinical audit Desirable criteria • Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project
