Job overview We are looking to appoint to a Consultant in Emergency Radiology with interest in musculoskeletal imaging to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield. We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers. Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered. Main duties of the job The post holder will primarily specialise in emergency radiology at the Northern General Hospital. The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of acute CT and ultrasound cover for emergency department patients and inpatients. They will also contribute to reporting in their chosen subspecialty which may include MSK, GI, Chest or other subspecialties depending on previous training. In addition, the successful candidate will be a required to contribute to the general radiology workload at the Northern General Hospital. They will be part of the on call rota at the Northern General Hospital, which may become a cross site on call rota in future. The successful candidate will work flexibly and co-operatively with other members of the team in order to provide a high quality, comprehensive emergency radiology service within this teaching hospital environment. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria • Full registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC). • Name on the specialist register for radiology specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. • FRCR or equivalent Desirable criteria • MD or PhD or equivalent Continuous Professional Development Essential criteria • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months Desirable criteria • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio Clinical experience Essential criteria • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in the specialty covered by the post. • Possess broad clinical experience in acute and general CT, ultrasound and MRI. • Subspecialty interest in trauma and orthopaedic imaging • Bone and joint interventional skills Desirable criteria • Post CCT fellowship in musculoskeletal or trauma imaging. Teaching and training Essential criteria • Experience of teaching medical students and resident doctors. Management and Administration Essential criteria • Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management Desirable criteria • Experience of working with management groups. Clinical governance and audit Essential criteria • Experience in performing clinical audit Desirable criteria • Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project Personal attributes Essential criteria • Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values (see below) • Good oral and written communication skills • The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC’ good medical practice (2013). • Proficient IT skills Research Essential criteria • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate Desirable criteria • Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
