**Applicants not located in the Atlanta, GA area will not be considered for the position.
Location: As a remote-first organization, employees are expected to primarily work from home in proximity to our main office location in Atlanta (must currently live within a reasonable driving distance of the Atlanta office - 211 Perimeter Center Pkwy NE, Dunwoody, GA) to meet the requirements of team gatherings, one-off meetings, and company-wide events, as well as the legal, tax, and security regulations based on our business operations. Employees are required to be in the Atlanta office two times per month, and when necessary for emergent IT situations (these situations are relatively rare and IT staff generally rotate coming in).
We are seeking a technically skilled and security-minded IT Security Engineer to join our IT & Data Security team. This position is ideal for someone who is comfortable working across systems and security domains—supporting our compliance efforts, protecting our infrastructure, and assisting with complex IT tasks. The ideal candidate has a foundation in both IT and cybersecurity and is eager to grow through hands-on technical experience in a mission-driven environment.
Job Duties and Essential Functions:
- Support internal and external security audits (e.g., SOC 2) by gathering evidence, maintaining documentation, and ensuring technical controls are in place.
- Respond to and complete security questionnaires from clients, vendors, and partners with accuracy and professionalism.
- Assist with endpoint and server hardening in accordance with security best practices.
- Perform technical security administration tasks, such as: Managing and enforcing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Administering and securing remote servers and endpoints, creating and managing SFTP and secure access accounts, and configuring logging and auditing tools on endpoints and servers.
- Participate in the deployment, configuration, and monitoring of security tools such as: Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR) platforms, vulnerability scanners, and Security Awareness Training (SAT) systems.
- Respond to Tier 2/3 IT security escalations and investigate potential security events.
- Work with the Manager of IT & Data Security to evaluate risks, review technical controls, and implement improvements.
- Maintain and update technical documentation, including runbooks, policies, and standards.
- Collaborate with the broader IT team to support secure configuration management, patching, and system monitoring.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:
- 1–3 years of IT experience, preferably in a hybrid IT/security role.
- Experience managing or supporting endpoint protection, patching, identity management, or system hardening.
- Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, NIST, or ISO 27001.
- Comfort using PowerShell or other scripting languages for system administration or task automation.
- Ability to investigate and resolve complex IT issues with a security-first mindset.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
- Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Security certifications, or equivalent are a plus.
