Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic, experienced Nursery Manager to lead a thriving early years setting. Reporting Line: Reports directly to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) Main Purpose of the Role: Ensure the nursery provides a safe, stimulating, and caring child-centred environment that supports children's educational and developmental needs. Maintain high standards of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual care for all children. Build and maintain strong partnerships with parents and carers. Key Responsibilities: 1. Leadership & Staff Development Inspire and lead the nursery team, fostering a positive and collaborative culture. Oversee recruitment, onboarding, staffing rotas, and performance management. Identify staff training needs and coordinate CPD opportunities. Lead regular appraisals and contribute to staff development planning. Liaise with the SLT on all HR matters. 2. Operational Management Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring compliance with EYFS, health and safety, and safeguarding requirements. Develop and implement nursery policies, procedures, and curriculum planning. Manage nursery budgets and financial planning in collaboration with the SLT. Contribute to wider strategic initiatives and the nurserys development plan. 3. Quality Assurance Monitor quality of care and learning, conduct audits, and drive continuous improvement. Build partnerships with external organisations and maintain up-to-date knowledge of sector best practices. 4. Parent & Community Engagement Promote strong communication with parents, encouraging involvement and trust. Support admissions, marketing efforts, and community outreach. 5. General Responsibilities Attend leadership meetings and contribute to broader organisational initiatives. Maintain a flexible, inclusive approach to the needs of children, families, and staff. Uphold equality, diversity, and safeguarding in all areas of practice. Person Specification Qualifications & Experience: Minimum Level 3 Early Years qualification (Level 5 preferred). Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience with at least 2 years in a leadership role. In-depth knowledge of EYFS, safeguarding, and statutory requirements. Experience of successfully leading a nursery through external inspections (e.g. Ofsted, ISI desirable). Skills & Attributes: Strong leadership and people management skills. Excellent communication and organisational abilities. Proactive, solution-focused mindset. Confident with IT systems and nursery management software. A genuine passion for early years education and high-quality childcare.
