SUMMARY
The Quality Engineering Technician is responsible for performing advanced dimensional inspections, programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), assisting with calibration activities, and supporting engineering-led root cause investigation and testing efforts related to customer returns in the water pump product lines. This role also includes oversight of inspection report development and updates for use by machine operators and assembly personnel. The position bridges hands-on inspection work with technical support under the guidance of division engineers and the Quality Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Perform precision dimensional inspections using manual and automated measurement tools.
· Independently program and operate CMMs for part validation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis. (MCOSMOS and/or CALYPSO)
· Lead and maintain the facility's calibration program, ensuring gages and inspection tools remain compliant and traceable.
· Oversee the physical testing and inspection of customer returns in the water pump product lines, documenting findings and collaborating with assigned engineers for root cause investigation.
· Develop and maintain inspection reports, instructions, and visual aids for use by machine operators and assembly personnel, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with current specifications.
· Review and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T, and customer specifications to develop appropriate inspection plans.
· Maintain inspection records, calibration logs, and return test documentation in accordance with quality system requirements.
· Assist engineers with data collection, failure mode identification, and test setup for performance evaluation of returned products.
· Interface with production, maintenance, and quality teams to drive continuous improvement efforts based on inspection and test findings.
· Monitor supplier certifications, raw materials, and outsourced processing for compliance with specifications.
· Participate in and support internal audits and corrective action initiatives as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no direct reports but may direct daily activities for lab support personnel or trainees under guidance from the Quality Manager.
TRAVEL
Occasional travel may be required (less than 10%) for training, supplier visits, or off-site calibration/lab support.
QUALIFICATIONS
· High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in a technical discipline or formal metrology training preferred.
· 2–4 years of experience in quality inspection or dimensional metrology, with CMM programming experience preferred.
· Familiarity with calibration systems and equipment traceability.
· Strong understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, and statistical sampling.
· Ability to work independently, communicate findings clearly, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequent standing, walking, and manual handling of parts and gaging equipment. Occasional lifting of materials up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity for close inspection, color evaluation, and measurement readings.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily in a climate-controlled inspection lab and occasionally in a shop environment. Must adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area. Noise level could be moderate to loud on occasion.

Compensation details: 28-32 Hourly Wage
