Civil Engineering Technician

Calculate dimensions, square footage, profile and component specifications, and material quantities, using calculator or computer. Draft detailed dimensional drawings and design layouts for projects and to ensure conformance to specifications. Analyse proposed site factors and design maps, graphs, tracings, and diagrams to illustrate findings. Read and review project blueprints and structural specifications to determine dimensions of structure or system and material requirements. Prepare reports and document project activities and data. Deliberate with supervisor to determine project details, such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, and evaluation of field conditions. Inspect project site and evaluate contractor work to detect design malfunctions and ensure conformance to design specifications and applicable codes. Plan and conduct field surveys to locate new sites and analyse details of project sites. Develop plans and estimate costs for installation of systems, utilization of facilities, or construction of structures. Report maintenance problems occurring at project site to supervisor and negotiate changes to resolve system conflicts. Conduct materials test and analysis, using tools and equipment, and applying engineering knowledge Perform any other duties as and when required by management. Matric/Grade 12 certificate or equivalent. Associate degree or diploma in civil engineering technology or related field 3 to 5 years experience ia a similar position Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and practices Excellent organizational and communication skills Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities Experience with site inspections and data collection is a plus Knowledge of relevant codes and safety regulations Ability to work independently and as part of a team Valid drivers license may be required for site visits
