Job Description
For talented, motivated, and eager individuals who would like to join Technical Shipmanagement but lack the necessary experience, we offer a challenging "training on the job" program as a JUNIOR TECHNICAL SUPERINTENDENT . With a history of 73 years, our client in Groningen is one of the oldest and largest shipping companies in the Netherlands. Originally focusing on refrigerated cargo trade, our client has expanded its ship owning and ship management activities into various trades, with offices in Groningen, Vado (Italy), and Breda. This company values the improvement of people, procedures, and technical standards. The position You will be part of the Technical Department, working in a fleet team managing daily activities for our vessels. After an approximately four-month familiarization period, you will be responsible for one to two vessels, reporting to your Fleetteam Manager, who will coach and supervise you. As a Junior Technical Superintendent, you will manage your assigned vessels daily, ensuring they operate safely, economically, and efficiently according to company standards. Your responsibilities include preparing budgets and maintenance schedules, coordinating repairs and dry-dockings, monitoring budgets, assessing expenses, and remotely advising onboard management. You will regularly visit vessels worldwide to assess their performance and report your findings. We provide relevant internal and external training and opportunities to gain practical experience, including visits to vessels worldwide, assistance during dry-dockings, onboard sailing trips, and visits to our branch office in Italy. The goal is to develop into a Technical Superintendent within one to three years, managing five vessels independently, including vessel visits and dry-dockings. The requirements Capacity, motivation, and ambition to grow into a Technical Superintendent role At least one year of sea experience as a Maritime Officer or Engineer Enthusiastic, eager, and committed to company standards Hands-on mentality with a focus on root-cause analysis and continuous improvement Cross-cultural awareness and good communication skills at various levels Proficiency in English (written and verbal) Willingness to travel abroad frequently, sometimes unexpectedly Based near Groningen or willing to relocate EU citizen or holding a Dutch work visa The perspective Opportunity to learn the role of a Superintendent within a multinational organization operating worldwide with advanced, high-quality vessels of various designs and ages.
