Mechanical Design Engineer

This role calls for a Mechanical Design Engineer who can effectively conceptualise, design, and implement innovative solutions for modular steel structures. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of mechanical engineering and some electrical engineering principles. Client Details A leader in the design and manufacture of modular steel structures, container conversions, and steel fabrication solutions. We work across a range of industries including transportation, defence, construction, and infrastructure, delivering bespoke and innovative solutions built to the highest standards. Description Key Responsibilities Design modular steel frames using 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor). Produce detailed manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation. Work closely with fabrication and production teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability. Liaise with clients and internal stakeholders to understand and translate project requirements into engineering solutions. Conduct structural calculations and basic FEA to validate designs. Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards (e.g., Eurocodes, BS5950, BS EN 1090). Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives. Support the integration of other systems into frames, including electrical and HVAC components. Profile Essential Skills: Degree or HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering or Structural Engineering. Proficient in 3D CAD software - SolidWorks preferred. Experience designing steel structures or modular frames. Knowledge of steel fabrication processes, materials, and welding standards. Understanding of structural mechanics and load path design. Ability to produce technical documentation to support manufacturing and compliance. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Desirable Skills Familiarity with ISO 9001 and BS EN 1090 quality standards. Experience working within the modular building or container conversion industries. Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) tools. Familiarity with project management tools or systems. Site experience or exposure to manufacturing environments.
