The Staff EH&S Engineer will be responsible for leading the EH&S Compliance Monitoring Programs with a focus on Occupational Safety (biosafety, industrial hygiene, chemical safety, and radiation) and Emergency Response to ensure a high level of EH&S performance for Johnson & Johnson MedTech. Under general supervision, this individual provides leadership and technical guidance to management and employees for the establishment and maintenance of robust processes to identify, evaluate and control risk in the workplace. This position ensures that top management and employees are in compliance with the rules and regulations of regulatory agencies, that company policies and procedures are being followed. Key Responsibilities: Ensure a high level of EH&S performance for the site. Provide technical expertise for all EH&S programs with focus on Occupational Health (biosafety, industrial hygiene, chemical safety, and radiation) and Emergency Response Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EH&S regulations, as well as J&J EH&S Standards including Management of Change. Partner with local management to ensure EH&S regulatory compliance. Bring global best practices into the site and actively share site perspective, knowledge and lessons learned to contribute and support a best-in-class professional level of EH&S globally. Set and monitor goals/objectives/assignments, provide adequate coaching/counseling to site functional leaders on EH&S programs/processes via dashboards & reports. Review, update, develop required EH&S programs including, but not limited to: IIPP, HMBP, HAZCOM, EAP, SOPs, Fire Prevention Programs, Biosafety, Lab Safety, Radiation/Laser Safety, and Chemical Inventory. Perform analysis for reporting of violations or potential violations to duly authorized enforcement agencies and J&J's corporate offices as appropriate and/or required. Perform routine EH&S assessments utilizing J&J Program Reviews, Assurance Audit, and Self Assessments to identify program specific deficiencies and areas of risk. Lead incident investigations for all reported injuries, including First Aid and Good Saves. Develop, initiate, maintain, and revise policies and procedures for the general operation of EH&S compliance programs and its related activities to prevent noncompliance/non-conformance activities. Support responses to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, by evaluating and recommending the initiation of investigative procedures. Performs analysis for reporting of violations or potential violations to duly authorized enforcement agencies and Johnson & Johnson's corporate offices as appropriate and/or required. Enforcement of company policies and procedures, and written safety programs that includes employee training which comply with Cal/OSHA and J&J. Assist with the creation and expansion of an effective Environmental Management System. Collect and manage Occupational Safety data for the group. Track outstanding EH&S compliance issues to closure. Supervise and mentor EH&S team members, consultants and contractors. Qualifications Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Experience and Skills: Required: Minimum 6 years of relevant Environmental Health, & Safety (EH&S) work experience. Technical/working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations in biosafety, industrial hygiene, chemical safety, radiation and emergency response. Experience identifying, evaluating, and controlling EH&S risks in the workplace. Proficient in MS SharePoint and MS Office software programs. Ability to quickly interpret complex regulatory issues and provide recommended course of action. Demonstrated experience managing direct reports and/or contractors. Excellent influencing, negotiating, planning, organizational, and time management skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. The ability to work in a team environment. Preferred: R&D experience in a highly regulated environment. Technical experience in diverse EH&S areas of air, water, hazardous and medical waste, machine safety, and/or ergonomics. Demonstrated project management skills Experience with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and certification Other: Requires up to 10% domestic travel The anticipated base pay range for this position is : $91,000-$147,200 Additional Description for Pay Transparency: The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.
