Network Engineer Automation (Freelance)

Data Center Network Automation Engineer Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands / Remote Type: Full-time - Freelance Duration: 6 months An international technology-driven company headquartered in Amsterdam is looking for an experienced Data Center Network Engineer to join its team in the Netherlands. This is a unique opportunity to work on a truly global scale, helping to design, maintain, and evolve a complex data center network that supports millions of users daily. As a key member of the infrastructure team, you will help ensure the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of the organization's global data center network. What You'll Do Ensure the stability and availability of a large-scale, globally distributed data center network. Operate, maintain, and improve high-performance networking infrastructure across multiple international sites. Develop automation tools and scripts for network provisioning, configuration management, and monitoring (primarily using Python and Unix/Linux). Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement solutions supporting private cloud and virtualization platforms. Lead efforts on zero-touch provisioning and automated configuration pipelines. Monitor and continuously improve network performance to reduce downtime and increase efficiency. Manage incidents, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with vendors across a multi-vendor environment. Engage with third-party partners to ensure timely support and resolution. What You'll Bring Deep understanding of networking protocols and principles: routing & switching, TCP/IP, BGP, EVPN, and VXLAN. Strong experience with automation tools and scripting languages, especially Python. Proven track record with Unix/Linux systems and network automation frameworks. Hands-on experience implementing and maintaining zero-touch provisioning and configuration tools. Practical knowledge of large-scale data center operations and infrastructure. Familiarity with virtualized network environments and private cloud platforms. Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-availability environment with multiple vendors and technologies. Strong incident response capabilities and experience coordinating with support vendors.
