About the client and location The ESA Centre for Earth Observation (ESRIN) is the European Space Agency’s (ESA) base in Frascati, Italy. From this location ESA conducts most of their earth observation research, including data analysis and distribution for other non-ESA satellites. Tasks and activities The scope of work will include: Defining and documenting user requirement related to the evolution activities. Designing and architecting robust, scalable, and secure Azure-based solutions to meet business requirements. Implementing and deploying Azure services, including but not limited to virtual machines, storage accounts, networking (SD-WAN, Site-to-Site VPN, Express Route), AI endpoints and gateways and Fabric resources (Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Spark). Overseeing the infrastructure upgrades, change of configuration and deployments in the production environment using Azure Landing Zones concept and CAF framework as best practices. Supporting the governance of the Azure environment, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and cost efficiency. Implementing Azure Policies, billing management, RBAC permissions using PIM. Management of Entra ID and Entra External ID including users, groups, enterprise applications, Conditional Access, RBAC management and security aspects. Automating tasks and infrastructure deployment using scripting or domain-specific languages (e.g., PowerShell, Azure CLI, BICEP or JSON) using Azure DevOPS or any CI/CD tool. Collaborating with other IT teams and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective cloud solutions. Staying up-to-date with the latest Azure services, features, and best practices. Documenting Azure configurations, processes, and procedures. Designing, documenting and deploying Proof of Concepts (POCs) on new IT solutions. Coordinating pilots (engaging users, collecting and documenting their feedback) on new IT services. Skills and experience The following skills and experience are mandatory: A technical degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). Proven experience in designing, implementing, and administering Microsoft Azure-based solutions. Strong understanding of core Azure services such as Virtual Machines, Azure Storage (Blob, File, Queue, Table), Azure Networking (Virtual Networks, Load Balancers, Gateways, DNS), and Fabric resources. Strong understanding of RBAC model. Solid experience in configuring and managing Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), including user and group management, SSO, MFA, and Conditional Access. Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell and/or Azure CLI for automation Understanding of cloud security best practices and experience implementing Azure security services. Experience with monitoring and logging tools in Azure (e.g., Azure Monitor, Azure Log Analytics and Sentinel). Strong desire to keep expanding your technical knowledge. Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment. Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill. Fluent in English, both written and spoken. The following skills and experience would be highly desirable: Experience working in a large organization (supporting over 2000 users) Experience with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Azure DevOps). Experience with serverless computing (e.g., Azure Functions, Logic Apps). Familiarity with ITIL framework. Why should you apply?
