Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer with 5 years of experience to join a specialist engineering company operating in the infrastructure and civil engineering sector. As a key member of the design team, you’ll be responsible for delivering mechanical systems used in critical infrastructure projects, including bridge bearings, expansion joints, and structural movement solutions. Key Responsibilities: Design and develop bespoke mechanical components and assemblies for use in bridges and large-scale structural systems. Produce detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and technical drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Perform engineering calculations and assist with design validation, ensuring compliance with technical standards and performance criteria. Collaborate with structural engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are aligned with overall project requirements. Prepare and maintain all relevant technical documentation, including design reports, BOMs, and manufacturing specifications. Support prototype build, manufacturing, and site installation, including problem-solving and on-site liaison where required. Key Requirements: A minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within infrastructure, structural, or heavy engineering industries. Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD for 2D and 3D design. Thorough understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes such as fabrication, machining, and assembly. Experience working to industry standards (e.g., EN1337 or equivalent). Excellent attention to detail, strong problem-solving ability, and a proactive approach to engineering challenges. Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
