GEON Performance Solutions has an excellent opportunity for a Field Development Engineer - Transportation and C&I. Job Summary The Field Development Engineer is responsible for the technical development of the Automotive, Consumer and Industrial market through the ownership of materials approvals, documenting application successes, building the network of materials and design engineers, promote and position GEON materials for future vehicle programs, and develop relationships with the advanced engineering community to grow new innovative applications. The successful candidate will be measured on obtaining current material approvals and identification and development of the pipeline of applications on future programs with proactive approval. The candidate will work with the advanced R&D engineering community to uncover innovation opportunities to provide opportunities for GEON compounds and position GEON as an innovation leader. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative team environment with the business development manager, account managers, market manager, and the R&D team to engage all of GEON’s capabilities for the development and identification of new application opportunities. Essential Functions: Champion the specification approval process at key automotive OEMs and Tier integrators. Clearly communicate application requirements & timing within the GEON organization to enable capture of business at the Tier molder level. Collaborate with formulation team in developing adequate materials solutions for the intended application, define material evaluation and validation plans. Identify product gaps within the GEON portfolio based on market needs at the OEMs & Tiers, lead the technology introduction and acceptance at these OEMs and Tiers. Provide technical leadership to gain identified OEM directed buy approvals. Own the working level relationship/network with the materials engineering and design engineering community at key OEMs and Tier integrators. In collaboration with the commercial and R&D teams build the pipeline of future application opportunities, ensure technical success of the opportunities, and enable business closes resulting in a profitable future for GEON. Based on an understanding of current application successes, seek additional opportunities for GEON materials through networking and advanced engineering innovation projects. Develop internal timelines to correspond with product development dates, to understand volume/demand and to ensure GEON materials are positioned on platform replacements. Provide application development consultative services such as techno-economic modeling, design and part reviews, and secondary operation recommendations. Promote GEON visibility in the marketplace by participation in relevant technical conferences and expositions, as well as industry/government/academia initiatives. Provide intelligence with respect to technical support and customer relationships of key GEON competitors. Adhere to all GEON safety, travel, ethics, and Human Resource policies. Other projects/duties as assigned or needed. Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, polymer or plastics engineering, chemical engineering or Material Science (masters preferred). 10 years' experience in the plastics materials market required Demonstrated track record of compound development & commercialization, specification and application development successes at the customer. Skills/Competencies: Ownership, accountability, and self-driven are amongst the key skills needed to succeed in this role. Ability to work collaboratively in a team/matrix environment, both within GEON and also in the customer environment (OEM/Tier/GEON). Ability to lead projects to completion. Technical aptitude with respect to thermoplastic materials and automotive applications. Ability to translate customer needs into GEON based solutions. Self-motivated and ability to work in an independent environment. Professional presence, demonstrated through verbal and written communication and presentation skills. A presence in the Avon Lake Technical Center and planned customer visits in the Southeast Michigan is expected. Domestic or International travel as required to insure customer and program engagement.
