Akkodis is partnered with a leading Medical Device Manufacturing company to recruit a Laboratory Services Manager to lead a product development testing and prototyping lab team. As the head of testing and prototyping lab, you will play a key role in advancing the development of safe, effective, and innovative medical products (mainly aerosol based). You will oversee testing methodologies, prototyping capabilities, equipment validation, documentation practices, and team development - all while ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety legislation. What You'll Do: Laboratory Operations & Testing Services Lead all internal mechanical, aerosol, airflow, and chemical testing services, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and relevance to product development objectives. Oversee rapid and traditional prototyping services including CNC machining, 3D printing, injection molding, and casting. Drive lab process innovation and service efficiency while maintaining a strong foundation of quality, documentation, and compliance. Stay up to date with evolving international, industry, and regulatory testing standards (e.g., ISO, FDA, Health Canada) and apply them to laboratory practices. Design and implement experiments to enhance testing capabilities and measurement techniques. Planning, Documentation & Delivery Plan and manage project testing schedules to ensure on-time, high-quality execution. Develop and maintain test plans, protocols, and technical documentation to support audits and design control. Ensure the accuracy of data reporting through robust practices including spreadsheet validation, lab notebook standards, and measurement verification. People Management Lead, coach, and develop a team of technical staff including lab technologists, technicians, and support personnel. Set clear performance expectations and goals; conduct regular reviews and career development conversations. Manage staffing, workload planning, training, and employee relations matters in partnership with HR. Regulatory & Compliance Ensure testing and prototyping activities are fully compliant with design controls, equipment validation, and applicable regulatory standards. Maintain validated equipment and software used in testing and prototyping. Prepare for and support internal and external audits and regulatory inspections as required. ⚠️ Health & Safety Oversight Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation (e.g., WSIA, OHSA). Train employees on safe lab practices, hazard awareness, and proper equipment usage. Maintain safe working conditions through regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and enforcement of procedures. Required Qualifications: Diploma in Mechanical, Materials, Manufacturing, or similar Engineering Technology related field; degree is an asset. 5 years of experience managing technical laboratory services in a regulated industry (e.g., medical devices, pharma, aerospace). Demonstrated experience with aerosol testing, airflow measurement, mechanical testing, and data analysis. Proven expertise in rapid prototyping and manufacturing methods, including 3D printing, CNC, injection molding, or casting. Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks and testing requirements for product development (ISO, FDA, etc.). Hands-on experience with test method development, documentation control, and equipment validation. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
