Job Description
What the role is: The Environmental Monitoring & Modelling Division (EMMD) implements a comprehensive air and water quality monitoring programme to ensure effective monitoring of the air and water quality. In EMMD, you will be part of the Environmental Quality Monitoring Department (EQMD) which will be using the air and water quality data collected is used to identify anomalies, assess long-term trends, and inform policies for the improvement of air and water quality. We are seeking suitable candidate(s) who is keen to oversee and manage the air and water quality monitoring programmes in EQMD. What you will be working on: You will be responsible for the following: Develop and implement onsite sampling protocols and testing procedures for both air and water quality monitoring across different environments, particularly during pollution incidents and investigative studies Perform preparative and pre-sampling procedures for various analytical instruments and detectors and set up appropriate sampling equipment for field work Conduct onsite sampling and measurements of pollutants using specialised analytical field equipment, covering air pollutants, volatile organic compounds, toxic industrial chemicals, and various water quality parameters in accordance with established protocols Assess, interpret and evaluate air and water quality data to determine pollution impacts on sensitive receptors Develop, plan and implement comprehensive QA/QC protocols to ensure accuracy, reliability and sensitivity of all air and water monitoring equipment, detectors, analysers and laboratory procedures Review and evaluate new equipment and technologies to enhance existing monitoring capabilities across both air and water quality parameters, focusing on sensitivity, accuracy, and range of detected substances Plan, prepare and manage procurement of various chemical detectors and scientific analytical equipment, oversee preventive maintenance, and conduct necessary troubleshooting of analytical equipment during field operations Review impact and risk assessments related to both air and water quality Review international and country-specific guidelines, standards, and criteria related to ambient air quality, coastal and inland water quality and conduct relevant benchmarking studies Participate actively in inter-agency committees and project teams focused on air and water quality monitoring and chemical pollution incident management and response Represent the organisation at technical and scientific forums at international, regional and national levels What we are looking for: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other fields related to air quality monitoring and assessment Minimum 4 – 8 years of experience in air/water quality monitoring, sampling & analysis or environmental-related industries Knowledge in air/water quality and/or laboratory analysis work is preferred Demonstrate critical thinking and sense-making skills Mature, driven, self-motivated and resourceful Demonstrate ability to work well in a team as well as individually Good command of spoken and written English Good communication and presentation skills Willing to be on standby on a rotational basis for work activation during non-office hours As part of the shortlisting process for this role, you may be required to complete a medical declaration and/or undergo further assessment.
