Senior Mechanical Engineer

JOB PURPOSE: Designs and reviews mechanical products and systems MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: BSc/BEng Mechanical Engineering Degree with 8 years post qualification work experience MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Must have experience managing projects. Must understand steel cost estimations and project costing Knowledge of technical ceramics and wear plate applications (added advantage) Process plant experience and equipment knowledge Materials handling knowledge and material properties Must be able to calculate drives and drive ratios Calculation of chute and hopper capacities and flow velocities Must understand hydraulic and pneumatic equipment Must be able to do basic structural designs, evaluations and strength of materials Good understanding of design drawings Understand pumps and pressures as well as pipe sizes and pressure ratings Knowledge of power plants (Eskom, added advantage) Having a knowledge of gas firing and burners would be advantageous Plant maintenance and maintenance planning People skills essential Able to lead a technical team to solve complex problems (e.g. multidisciplinary challenges) Ensure deliverables meet applicable standards Development of company specific standards
