THE ROLE: The Tax Section Manager oversees the operations of the tax department within the organization. This role involves developing and implementing tax strategies, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations, managing a team of tax professionals, and collaborating with other departments to optimize the organization’s tax position. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage the preparation, review, and timely filing of compliance regarding income tax, direct tax, and Pilar II registration and compliance for APJ countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Thailand, and others. Prepare and review quarterly tax provisions for all APAC legal entities for US GAAP reporting. Manage compliance related to US Withholding tax, US 1099 Reporting, US Property Tax, and US Unclaimed Property, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Oversee tax audits and examinations, collaborating with external tax advisors and internal partners as needed. Collaborate with finance and legal departments to develop strategies that optimize the organization’s overall tax position. Research and analyze current and emerging tax legislation and regulations to identify risks and opportunities. Manage the team’s budget, ensuring effective resource allocation and performance. Lead, develop, and mentor a team of tax professionals, providing guidance and performance management. Support ad-hoc tasks as required. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 7-10 years of progressive tax experience, including management, within a public accounting firm or corporate tax department. Knowledge of US GAAP income tax accounting and international tax laws. Understanding of local tax laws across multiple APAC countries. Experience in preparing income tax returns and provisions for APAC countries. Experience with deferred tax assets/liabilities. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Leadership and team management capabilities, with a focus on mentorship and development. Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals. Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities. Proficiency in tax software, Microsoft Office Suite, and ERP systems like SAP or OTP is an advantage. ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; Master’s preferred. CPA or equivalent certification is highly desirable.
