Primary Electrical Engineer (HV Earthing Systems)

Primary Electrical Engineer (HV Earthing Systems) Overall Job purpose: As an Earthing Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and analysis of grounding systems specifically for switch houses and substations up to 400kV, ensuring the safe dissipation of fault and lighting currents to protect both people and station assets. The Earthing Design Engineer will primarily use CDEGs to model earth grid performance, assess step and touch voltages, and ensure compliance with standards such as BS EN 5022, IEEE 80 and National Grid TS 3.1.1/3.1.2, all based on site-specific soil resistivity and system fault levels. Main Duties & Responsibilities: Lead the design of substation and site-wide earthing systems for AIS and GIS Substations up to 400kV Use software such as CDEGS and XGSLab to perform detailed earthing studies Support teams and conduct site resistivity testing and field measurements Interpret technical data, soil investigations and client specifications to develop optimal earthing designs Produce detailed design documentation, including drawings, calculations and reports Liaise with clients, projects mangers and other stake holders to ensure project meets design specification and safety requirements Support business development and tendering by providing technical oversight and estimates Occasional travel to site when required This list is not exhaustive, other duties may be required withing the scope of this job spec Requirements & Person Specification: 5 years previous experience working as a Earthing Engineer or Electrical safety design is essential Degree in BEng, BSC Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or related discipline Strong knowledge of relevant standards such as BS EN 50522, IEEE 80 and the National Grid TS 3.1.1 / TS 3.1.2. Proficient in CDEGS, XGLab, or similar software Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to priorities own workload and work to deadlines Full UK Driving License Additional Information: Job Type: Permanent / Full Time Working Hours: Hybrid (3 days in off, 2 from home) Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 Starting salary Location: Loughborough & Home Probation: 3 months Benefits: Fuel Card Accommodation & Food Paid (when travelling) Hybrid working Annual Holiday Pension Scheme ADZN1_UKTJ
