The CML Advocates Network (CMLAN) is an active international network for leaders of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) patient groups. It connects 131 patient organisations across 96 countries, facilitating best practice sharing among patient advocates worldwide. Hosted by the Leukemia Patient Advocates Foundation (LePAF) in Switzerland, it is governed by a Steering Committee of six regional CML patient advocates and three co-founders. The network seeks a Chief Executive Officer (CEO), an exciting leadership opportunity for a strategic and visionary individual to serve the global CML community and support those affected by this chronic condition. Role and Responsibilities The CEO leads the management of CMLAN, reporting to the Chair and Steering Committee, providing strategic leadership, planning, and operational management. Responsibilities include: Governance Leading the network, supporting its mission, and implementing its vision and strategy. Communicating effectively with the Steering Committee and providing necessary information for decision-making. Ensuring good governance practices. Financial Performance and Viability Maintaining fiscal integrity, including annual budget submission and financial management. Preparing financial statements and reports, ensuring project budgets are adhered to. Developing reports, fundraising, and ensuring financial sustainability. Meeting legal and fiscal requirements of the Swiss foundation hosting CMLAN. Strategy and Operations Developing and evaluating the Strategic Plan, ensuring alignment with the mission. Planning and implementing initiatives like CML Horizons, World CML Day, and communication channels. Evaluating performance and impact using KPIs. Engaging with member organisations and maintaining network cohesion. Network Operations & HR Managing daily operations, policies, and procedures. Overseeing staff recruitment, supervision, and performance management. Conducting staff meetings and analyzing environmental changes. Organizing Steering Committee meetings and follow-up actions. Network Communications Representing CMLAN publicly and overseeing communication strategies. Maintaining stakeholder relationships and responding to member needs. Managing external communications, website, events, and media. Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Required Skills: Leadership experience in non-profit roles such as Executive Director, CEO, or CFO. Skills in motivation, relations, problem-solving, and grant writing. Negotiation, project management, and public speaking skills. Proven personnel management, funding proposal, and patient advocacy experience. Proficiency with MS Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Word). Experience with pharma funding, project bids, and proposal writing. Ability to manage executive relations and public actions. Background in federal lobbying or government funding review. Experience in accounting and strategic planning. Familiarity with legal matters, lobbying, and conference speaking. Skills in website management and knowledge of tools like QuickBooks Online and Toggl. Experience as a patient reviewer or in patient-related content creation. Special Conditions: Location preferably within an EU Member State. Willingness to travel approximately 30 days per year. Flexibility to work outside standard hours as needed.
