Senior Mechanical design engineer

Job description The activities and descriptions below are the base roles and responsibilities for the Mechanical design function, the list is not exhaustive and other roles and responsibilities can be added by the Company if it deems said role or responsibility to be part of the duties of a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. Experience with the design and understanding of the assembling and rebuilding of food packaging / processing machinery would be preferable. You will need to have led a small team and have demonstrable leadership skills, the role will report to the Drawing Office manager, you will be expected to conduct daily reviews with your team, and weekly updates to the Drawing Office manager and on occasion the Senior Management team. On top of your Management responsibilities you will need the following Technical, Administrative and Customer facing experience. * * Solidworks, able to produce parts, assemblies and drawings * AutoCAD / Draftsight. * Some knowledge of Packaging machines * Machine building * Able to carry out all stages of the machine design process. * Assessing the project requirements * Undertake relevant research and testing * Working through concepts and calculations * Liaising with customers * Modelling and detail drawing. * Able to carry out calculations for sizing motors, gearbox's, shafts, belts etc. * Liaise with outside suppliers * Familiar with the machinery directive for machine design * Familiar with servo motor control and other automation equipment. * Mechanical role – so knowledge of gears, cams and mechanisms. * 5 years’ experience in mechanical engineering design * Office – Excel for BOMS etc. * Special projects. * Confidant and able to present the designs and ideas to all levels * Methodical with an eye for detail. * Enthusiastic and self-motivated. * Team player. * Resourceful and able to interrogate existing legacy drawings and BOMS in various formats. * Able to do some reverse engineering when required. * Some occasional international travel. * Overtime is not common but may be needed at times to meet deadlines. Any other tasks deemed necessary to complete the given tasks
