Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract – 6 Months) Location: Leicester (Minimum 4 Days On-site Per Week) Sector: Special Purpose Machinery / Automation Contract Type: Outside IR35 Rate: £30-45 We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a specialist automation and special purpose machinery company based in Leicester on a 6-month contract. This role requires on-site presence at least 4 days per week and offers the opportunity to work on a mix of cradle-to-grave design and modifications to existing machinery. Key Responsibilities: * Full lifecycle mechanical design of bespoke automated equipment * Modifications and improvements to existing systems and components * 3D CAD modelling and production of detailed manufacturing drawings * Close collaboration with internal teams including electrical and controls engineers * Supporting builds, testing, and commissioning where necessary Requirements: * Proven experience in mechanical design within the special purpose machinery or automation sector * Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Solidedge) * Ability to manage multiple projects from concept through to completion * Strong problem-solving and engineering analysis skills * Comfortable working on-site and within a collaborative, fast-paced team environment
