Software Platform Engineering Manager - Ubuntu for Next-Gen Silicon Join us to apply for the Software Platform Engineering Manager - Ubuntu for Next-Gen Silicon role at Canonical . About the Role We are seeking an experienced engineering manager passionate about operational systems, open source technologies, and cutting-edge hardware. You will lead engineering teams to optimize Ubuntu for the latest x86, ARM, RISC-V, s390x, and POWER systems, collaborating with leading silicon vendors to enhance platform performance and features. Responsibilities Lead and develop a team of engineers across various experience levels. Oversee project delivery, ensuring milestones are met. Participate as a technical lead on complex system architecture engagements. Implement disciplined engineering practices, documentation, and quality standards. Optimize Ubuntu for new hardware platforms. Contribute to code reviews and technical documentation. Represent your team and product in internal and external communities. Qualifications Strong academic background in Computer Science or STEM fields, or equivalent experience. Proficiency in C, C++, and Python. Experience with Linux, kernel, or user space development. Experience with Debian/Ubuntu or other Linux distributions. Proven leadership in software engineering teams. Excellent communication skills in English. Self-motivated, thoughtful, and result-oriented. Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks. Desired Skills Experience with open source communities and licenses. Knowledge of computer architecture (x86, ARM, RISC-V, s390x). Understanding of build systems, toolchains, and cross-compilation. Experience with hardware bring-up, virtualization, networking, or graphics stacks. Familiarity with Docker, K8s, confidential computing, RDMA, Infiniband, high-performance computing, benchmarking, and profiling.
