Mechanical Design Engineer

The company are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a fast paced design, research and development team. You will report directly to the design manager and work closely with their in-house fabrication, external suppliers, procurement, and sales and marketing teams to research, innovate and develop parts keeping them at the forefront of their industry. Key Tasks Product development including brainstorming and concept development, 3D modelling of concepts using SolidWorks CAD software. FEA analysis of CAD to determine mechanical stability of the design and identify potential failures. Contribute to all phases of the design process from “cradle to the grave” following a stage gate style procedure. Creation of detailed 2D drawings to be used by in-house and external fabricators. Follow company drawing and revision control procedures. Skills Required Strong problem-solving skills and analytical ability to think creatively, working within budget and deadline. Competent to a high standard in the use of SolidWorks (or close CAD equivalents) to produce drawings and computer models and have experience in using FEA within the package. Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes and methods particularly in sheet metal fabrication. Experience 2-5 years proven working experience in NPD for medium and high value work. Experience in sheet metal design, welding techniques and fabrication would be a distinct advantage 2 years in a design for manufacture environment preferable Salary & Benefits £40,000-£50,000 DOE 21 days holiday bank holidays (increasing after length of service).
