Safety Engineer

Overview: A unique opportunity has arisen for a Safety & Reliability Engineer to join a high-impact engineering team working on complex Defence systems. This role focuses on developing safety and reliability evidence to support the delivery of technically advanced and safety-critical capabilities for military applications. Job Title: Safety & Reliability Engineer – Defence Systems Location: Hybrid – 3 days per week onsite (UK-based site) Salary: Circa £60,000 depending on experience Bonus Benefits What’s on Offer: Company performance bonus (up to £2,500) Up to 14% combined employer/employee pension contribution Opportunity for paid overtime Flexi-leave scheme (up to 15 additional days) Enhanced parental leave and fertility support Flexible working arrangements Key Responsibilities: Develop and maintain safety and reliability cases for complex electronic and weapon systems Conduct hazard analysis, FMECA, FTA, and reliability predictions Integrate safety and reliability assessments with systems engineering processes Balance performance and risk to meet safety, cost, and delivery requirements Produce high-quality reports and support internal and customer-facing reviews Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and engage with stakeholders at all levels Skills and Experience Required: Strong background in system safety, functional safety, or reliability engineering Experience with safety and reliability tools and techniques (e.g. FMECA, FTA, reliability analysis) Familiarity with UK and international safety standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508, DEF STANs, or DO-178C Understanding of complex electronic systems and associated safety considerations Strong communication and influencing skills in technical and stakeholder environments Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in a relevant engineering discipline
