Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Financial Controller to join our team. This is a critical on-site leadership role responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, accounts payable/treasury, internal controls, system implementations and regulatory compliance. The Financial Controller is an integral part of the overall accounting team (US and MX) and is involved in many cross-departmental and strategic initiatives of the Company. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in both U.S. and Mexico accounting environments, be fluent in English and Spanish, and bring a strong background in SAP ERP systems and U.S. GAAP. Key Responsibilities: Manage the Accounting, Treasury/Accounts Payable and Finance Project Management teams in San Diego and Tijuana offices (as well as foreign bookkeepers/CPAs), including: Accounting Lead the planning, direction, and coordination of all accounting and reporting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, equity accounting, and worldwide consolidation. Responsible for the month-end and year-end closing process, including account/variance analysis and reconciliation. Provide oversight with all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. Maintain governance over global accounting policies and lead efforts in application of technical accounting guidance, including participating in the drafting and/or review of technical accounting positions and policy memos. Manage the close calendar for the consolidation group of companies and the portfolio/affiliated companies. Consolidate monthly financial results into a comprehensive financial reporting package. Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and footnotes in accordance with U.S. GAAP. Manage the U.S. GAAP group audit and statutory audits ensuring timely completion in addition to ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal financial reporting requirements. Analyze financial data to support strategic decision-making. Create ad hoc models and reports as required. Assist with annual budget and periodic reforecasts for individual entities and consolidated group. Implement and maintain a strong system of internal controls. Responsible for accounting/finance policy & procedure updates and serve as a key resource for technical accounting questions and U.S. GAAP. Responsible for the determination and documentation of the treatment for complex or non-routine transactions, including communication to Management of accounting implications to the Company. Oversee the Company KPI tracking, peer review and daily/monthly Flash Reports. Finance Project Management Contributor to financial models for strategic initiatives, cost reduction projects, contract reviews and margin/product profitability reviews. Leverage digital tools to improve the cost and efficiency of accounting and reporting processes, and that enable the business to scale effectively. Focus on deductibility of Mexican invoices and managing VAT. Oversee system administration of SAP S4 Hana and manage the external support company handling open tickets and issues. Lead SAP ERP finance module implementation and optimization initiatives. Other duties include designing and implementing improvements in financial processes to meet the Company's continuous improvement initiatives. Support tax compliance, due diligence for M&A transactions and transaction implementations if applicable. Work with internal and external tax experts on transfer pricing, deferred taxes, and other compliance initiatives. Treasury/Accounts Payable Manage treasury functions, including daily/weekly investments, cash flow forecasting, AP aging optimization, AP pay run lists and timing, foreign currency exchanges, vendor relations. Manage global banking relationships, negotiate terms, and maintain service level performance. Oversee day-to-day treasury operations, including cash management, bank account structures, and treasury systems. Manage investment of excess cash in alignment with risk, return, and liquidity goals. Support Company debt facility and covenant compliance reporting. Supervise credit card (issuance, policy, limits, review of charges and support, deductibility, etc.) programs. Develop treasury policies and procedures and promote financial best practices across the organization. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree preferred). Certified Public Accountant ( CPA ) required. Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal) required. Minimum of 15 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership roles. Strong technical expertise in U.S. GAAP and related reporting requirements (additional expertise in MFRS/NIF valuable). Hands-on experience with ERP systems is required (SAP preferred). Prior Big 4 experience or similar strongly preferred. Prior experience managing teams of 10 required. Experience working in cross-border or multinational environments required. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, on-site environment, juggling multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Expert in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and PowerBI a plus. Work Location: This is a full-time, on-site position based in San Diego, CA and/or Tijuana, B.C., Mexico (traveling between offices expected). Remote or hybrid work is not available for this role.
